If someone else’s carelessness hurt you in Hollywood, Florida, whether in a crash on Hollywood Boulevard, a fall in a store or a collision on the Broadwalk, you may have a claim against the person or business responsible, and Florida law sets a deadline for bringing it. Hollywood is in Broward County, so a case filed here goes through the Broward courts. I have represented injured people in South Florida since 2014, and our North Miami Beach office takes injury cases from Hollywood.

Where Hollywood injuries happen
Hollywood counted 153,067 residents in the 2020 Census, and an April 2025 estimate published by the Florida Legislature puts it near 157,000. Its main corridors include:
- I-95, with interchanges at Hollywood Boulevard and Sheridan Street. FDOT’s 95 Express work includes dual exit ramps at Sheridan Street, and a separate FDOT study is looking at the Sheridan Street and Stirling Road interchanges.
- Florida’s Turnpike, which meets Hollywood Boulevard at an interchange where a Turnpike widening project calls for added right-turn lanes at the exit ramps.
- Hollywood Boulevard and US 1 (Federal Highway), which meet downtown at Young Circle, a roundabout.
- State Road 7 (US 441), part of which FDOT lists as being in Hollywood and the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Tribe’s Hollywood Reservation is home to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
- A1A and Hollywood Beach. The Broadwalk runs more than two and a half miles along the beach, from Jefferson Street to Sheridan Street. In December 2025, CBS News Miami reported that Hollywood Fire Department data showed 136 bike-related accidents on the Broadwalk so far that year, even though city rules ban motorized devices there.
For crashes, see our page on Hollywood car accidents. We also handle injuries that happen off the road: slip and fall injuries in stores, restaurants and hotels, injuries caused by unsafe property, and wrongful death claims for families who lost someone. People walking or riding near the beach can read our pages on pedestrian accidents and bicycle accidents.
What Broward County means for your case
Hollywood is in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit, which is made up of Broward County. The main courthouse is the Broward County Central Courthouse at 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale. Closer to home, the Clerk of Courts’ South Regional Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Boulevard accepts civil filings.
One more rule affects where a case lands. Florida law allows a lawsuit to be filed in the county where the defendant lives, so if the driver who hit you in Hollywood lives in Miami-Dade, the case can be filed there. Whether to file a lawsuit at all is your decision, made after we talk through the options.
After an injury in Hollywood
- Get medical care. Memorial Regional Hospital, at 3501 Johnson Street, is a Level I trauma center according to Memorial Healthcare System. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is at 1005 Joe DiMaggio Drive. If you were hurt in a car crash, PIP pays medical benefits only if you get initial care from a qualifying provider within 14 days of the crash.
- Report it. The Hollywood Police Department is headquartered at 3250 Hollywood Boulevard. A crash on I-95 or the Turnpike may be investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol instead. If you fell at a business, tell a manager and ask for a written incident report.
- Keep evidence. Take photos of the scene, the hazard and your injuries. Get names and phone numbers of witnesses. Keep discharge papers, bills and receipts.
- Be careful with insurers. Talk to a lawyer before giving a recorded statement to the other side’s insurance company. Your own auto insurer is different: Florida’s PIP law requires you to comply with your policy’s terms, including an examination under oath, to receive benefits.
The Florida rules that apply
- Deadline. For negligence claims that arose after March 24, 2023, the deadline to file suit is generally two years. Claims that arose on or before that date fall under the old four-year deadline. Exceptions exist, so check your deadline early.
- Shared fault. Florida uses modified comparative fault. If you are found more than 50 percent at fault for your own injury, you recover nothing. At 50 percent or less, your damages are reduced in proportion to your share of the fault. Medical malpractice cases are excepted from the 50 percent rule.
- Car crashes. Your own personal injury protection (PIP) coverage pays first, and a claim for pain and suffering against the at-fault driver has to clear a legal threshold. Our Hollywood car accident page explains both.
- Wrongful death. A wrongful death action generally must be filed within two years.
How we handle Hollywood cases
Our office does the day-to-day work: getting the police or incident report, collecting your medical records and bills, identifying the insurance policies that may apply, and dealing with the adjusters. If you have no health insurance, we explain your options for getting care. To understand how bills get paid while a claim is open, see who pays your medical bills after an injury.
You pay no attorney fee unless we recover money for you. We also serve nearby communities, including Hallandale Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach and North Miami Beach.
Hollywood injury FAQ
Can a North Miami Beach office handle my Hollywood case?
Yes. We handle injury cases across South Florida, including Broward County. Much of the work is done by phone, email and records requests, and you can meet with us at our office when you need to.
How long do I have to bring a claim?
For most negligence claims that arose after March 24, 2023, the deadline to file suit is generally two years. Some claims have different deadlines, so call early rather than assume you have time.
What if I was partly at fault?
You can still recover if you were 50 percent at fault or less, but your damages are reduced by your share. If you are found more than 50 percent at fault, you recover nothing, so how fault is proven matters from the start.
Should I talk to the other side’s insurance company?
You can report the claim, but talk to a lawyer before you give a recorded statement to the other driver’s or business’s insurer. Your own insurer can require your cooperation under your policy.
Does it cost anything to talk to you?
No. The consultation is free, and you pay no attorney fee unless we recover money for you.
